The Issue with Takeout
There has never been a greater demand for takeout food than there is today, and this isn’t just a pandemic-related thing!
But unfortunately, of the reported 2025 million disposable takeout containers used every year in the EU alone, many are never recycled, and end up as trash. So this ever-expanding appetite for takeout has to be bad news for the planet, right? Well, not necessarily.
Thankfully, there is a new food-delivery platform called DeliverZero that takes the trash out of takeout!
How DeliverZero Works
Already thriving in New York City, DeliverZero will soon be expanding to Chicago and Amsterdam.
The DeliverZero platform is similar to existing food delivery services like Uber Eats or Deliveroo, but it uses 100% recyclable, reusable containers instead of disposable ones to remove trash from the takeout equation! Here’s how it works:
- Like existing services, DeliverZero provides a platform where customers can order from a selection of their favorite restaurants.
- Once the customer has decided what they fancy, the food is delivered in robust, sanitized, reusable containers.
- Customers can easily return these containers to any restaurant on the DeliverZero platform, simply by handing them over to the delivery person next time they place an order, or by returning them to a DeliverZero restaurant in person. Customers can also keep the containers for a small fee if they wish!
- The containers, designed for over 1000 uses, are then carefully sanitized, ready to be used again; just like the plates and bowls we use in a restaurant.
Making Takeout More Sustainable
By delivering food in recyclable containers that last for over 1000 uses, DeliverZero is able to replace over 1000 disposable takeout containers with a single reusable one. This helps to significantly reduce the environmental impact of the takeout process.
As DeliverZero’s exclusive partner in the Netherlands, we are very proud here at Ozarka to provide the reusable containers for this sustainable takeout revolution!
